Weeknight Tablescape

Updated: Jun 29, 2018

I love to host friends for dinner at my home, especially on a week night. The atmosphere is more laid back and comfortable than being in a restaurant, and you have the added perk of not have to pay the insane mark-up on wine! To make the experience something special for my guests, I like to put some effort into how I set the table. It really doesn’t take a lot of time to elevate a normal table setting and it makes your guests feel like you have really gone the extra mile to create a beautiful environment for them.

For this dinner party we were serving Halibut burgers with yam fries, so I wanted to play off how fish and chips are traditionally served in newspaper. I used this newspaper print table runner with cheeky headlines that have a nautical twist, so perfect! I also picked up a bunch of high and magic roses from whole foods to create simple but impactful, single flower arrangements for the table. The rest of the setting was just my everyday placemats and napkins, I simply finished off the look with some scattered tea lights.

Here is my supply list of what I use for creating a simple weeknight tablescape.

Runner or table cloth

One large bunch of flowers (roses, peonies, gerbera daisies etc.) – make one focal piece arrangement and then use bud vases for extra impact

Napkins and placemats – if your table cloth is printed, try to use something more neutral or vice versa.

Flatware

Glassware- Water and wine glasses

Ice bucket

Water carafe

Tea lights
